SheltaRock

Biography

SheltaRock, born Shelly-Ann Jackson in Kingston, Jamaica, is a distinguished recording artist, songwriter, and producer renowned for her uncompromising lyricism and command of the conscious Reggae and Dancehall genres. Her artistic foundation was built during a formative upbringing split between the vibrant musical culture of Jamaica and the diverse urban landscape of Canada. This dual perspective heavily informs her signature sound—a sophisticated fusion of traditional Reggae, hardcore Dancehall, and the rhythmic complexities of Hip-Hop.

Originally embarking on her professional journey in 2011 under the moniker Karamanti, she quickly established herself as a formidable force in the industry. Her career is marked by a steadfast commitment to independence; as the founder and operator of the record label and publishing house Blakkwuman22 Music, she remains one of the few female artists in the genre to maintain full executive control over her creative catalog. This autonomy has allowed her to produce a body of work characterized by profound social commentary, exploring themes of spirituality, social justice, and Pan-Africanism. Her discography includes the critically acclaimed debut Dancehall Retaliates, the socially conscious EP The Black God, and the spiritually resonant Spiritual Warfare, which earned a nomination for Album of the Year at the Antigua Barbuda Gospel Music Awards.

Prior to her transition to the reggae stage, she achieved significant commercial success under the name Lady Shelly, earning a Gold plaque in Canada for the single “You Know.” Her impact on the Jamaican charts has been equally notable, with her single “Read” reaching the number-one position on the Roots FM Top Ten Conscious Chart. Beyond her vocal contributions, she has solidified her reputation as a skilled producer, overseeing the release of various rhythm compilations and singles that have further elevated her standing within the international music community.

In late 2025, the artist underwent a significant professional and personal evolution, adopting the name SheltaRock—a childhood nickname bestowed upon her by her father. This rebranding represents a conscious departure from the commercial pressures of the mainstream music industry and a return to the intrinsic values that first inspired her craft. Entering 2026, SheltaRock is dedicated to the pursuit of musical excellence for its own sake, prioritizing the use of her creative gifts for the betterment of society.
