Biography
Yahdeen Essence, born Nadine McKenzie in St. Ann, Jamaica, is a spiritually driven reggae and roots recording artist whose music reflects faith, empowerment, and conscious expression. From an early age, she displayed a natural gift for music, writing her first song at nine years old and delivering her first public performance at fifteen, marking the beginning of her lifelong journey in music.
Growing up in St. Ann, Yahdeen Essence developed her craft through community performances, cultural showcases, and talent competitions. Her dedication and lyrical strength earned national recognition when she placed among the Top 10 finalists in Jamaica’s 40th Anniversary Competition. She later secured second place in the JCDC Big Stage Competition and received the award for Best Lyrics, highlighting her ability to communicate powerful and meaningful messages through music.
Known for choosing substance over commercial trends, Yahdeen Essence has built a catalogue rooted in spiritual, inspirational, and motivational themes. Her music often reflects prayer, personal reflection, and a deep connection to faith, consistently encouraging resilience, truth, and self-empowerment. Blending reggae, roots, and soul influences, her sound is shaped by Jamaican culture, life experience, and strong spiritual conviction.
Throughout her career, Yahdeen Essence has released several singles and contributed to a number of reggae compilations. Among her recognized recordings is Teach Me, a spiritually inspired, prayer-styled track featured on the Passion Fruit Riddim alongside established reggae acts.
In 2023, Yahdeen Essence met recording artist and producer SheltaRock (formerly Karamanti), founder and operator of the independent record label Blakkwuman22 Music. The two quickly formed a strong professional and personal bond, which led to a series of musical collaborations. Yahdeen Essence’s first recording for the label was Deliver Us on the Blood Sacrifice Riddim. She later went on to record on two additional Blakkwuman22 Music projects — Tabula Rasa Riddim and Incroyable Riddim — further strengthening her presence within the conscious reggae space.
At the beginning of 2026, Yahdeen Essence officially became part of the Blakkwuman22 Music roster and is now represented by the label. This partnership marks an important step in her continued artistic development and professional growth.
Today, Yahdeen Essence remains dedicated to writing, recording, and performing music that inspires positive change. With a voice defined by sincerity and conviction, she continues to use her gift to spread messages of hope, faith, love, and empowerment through reggae music.
